Janice is about 5'4" with green eyes and long blonde hair that's always tied back into a ponytail, yet somehow very messy anyway. Her typical outfit consists of khaki jodhpurs, knee-high laced leather boots, a button-down shirt, and a brown leather jacket, not to mention her beloved, battered fedora complete with bullet hole right through the crown. (In short, petite female Indiana Jones.) She's a little on edge, usually, having had to surrender the revolver and whip she's accustomed to having at her belt, but damned if she'll give up the cigar she's usually chomping.
The daughter of notorious archaeologist Harry "The Graverobber" Covington, Janice has followed in her father's footsteps and continued his relentless, often Machiavellian, quest to find the Xena Scrolls. She is the descendant of, and a dead ringer for, Gabrielle of Poteidaia -- Xena's companion and author of the Scrolls. After meeting up with classical linguist Melinda Pappas, who turned out to be descended from Xena, Janice and her new partner in (maybe) crime discovered the first cache of scrolls on a dig site in World War II Macedonia, only to lose them thanks to a mistake made by one Jack Kleinman, a New Jersey brush salesman posing (badly) as a French spy. Who, as it happens, is Joxer's descendant.
Janice and Mel have continued their hunt for the Xena Scrolls, and it's a good thing Mel does the linguistic work because Janice is a lousy translator: she originally got Xena and Callisto completely mixed up. On a tip from a source in England that a boy matching Jack Kleinman's description was seen at an unusual cross-dimensional high school in the States, Janice decided to apply for a teaching position there in hopes of getting back the Scrolls that he stole. Besides, the pay was better and a less dodgy way of funding their continued research than selling off artifacts to the highest bidder, no matter how unscrupulous.
Not that Janice wouldn't do that anyway.
Janice is young, rash, and fairly prone to cockiness, even when she's wrong; if she gets called on it, she's likely to try and bluster her way out of the situation with no small amount of yelling. Possibly fisticuffs if she can get away with it, or at least an accusatory finger in someone's face. She has an ego that's a bit too big for her, and likes to swagger and style herself a hero; finding out she was descended from Gabrielle "the useless tagalong" instead of Xena, like she'd always hoped, is a disappointment she's never gotten over and still resents.
If there's any one characteristic that defines Janice more than any other, it's her singleminded determination to unearth all of the Xena Scrolls and conclusively prove to the world that Xena was real, and that history and classical myth as we know them are wrong. And if she can get that message across to some people while she's in Fandom trying to get back the Scrolls that Kleinman stole and earning money for further research, hey, that's a bonus.

Availability in General
Weekday availability between approximately 8AM-6PM PST will be sporadic at best depending on my workload and whatever special projects come my way, so generally slowplay; I may be able to get in a decent amount of interaction, take a few pings, or might not have time at all. It's completely up in the air, but afternoon interaction will almost invariably be very, very slow. The chance of my being around on weeknights is fairly decent between 6PM and 10PM PST, but no guarantees. And I'm typically around, on and off, all day on the weekend.
